Power banks (external batteries) are ubiquitous, available from numerous brands and in a wide range of models, with prices starting from around a hundred kronor. The primary factors influencing cost are capacity (measured in mAh, where a higher value indicates more charges) and feature set. Xtorm, a Dutch brand, is aiming to expand its presence in the competitive Nordic market, and we received their XB200 Power Bank Travel 6700 (mAh) for evaluation. We assess whether Xtorm’s expertise in premium product design translates to the power bank market.
Xtorm presents the power bank in well-designed packaging. Inside, we find an external battery with approximate dimensions of 10 x 5 cm and a thickness of just over one centimeter. The surface has a high-quality feel and features an anti-slip treatment. A micro-USB cable for charging is included, cleverly integrated into the side of the device via a magnetic attachment point, making it almost “invisible” when stowed. The power bank requires several hours to fully charge and provides approximately 2-3 smartphone charges, depending on the smartphone model and its battery capacity. The Power Bank 6700 is also available in a 10,000 mAh variant. Note that Quick Charge 3.0 functionality is limited to Android devices and is not compatible with Apple iPhones. However, the Xtorm Power Bank 6700 supports 5V at 2.4A, enabling charging of tablets (e.g., iPads) and even the Nintendo Switch (requiring a separate USB-C to USB cable, available for approximately 89 kronor). An LED indicator on the front displays the remaining charge level, represented by a circle divided into segments, each indicating 25% capacity.
The Xtorm Power Bank 6700 is a competent and aesthetically pleasing product. However, the asking price of 45 Euro (approximately 430 SEK at the time of writing) may not represent optimal value, as alternative power banks with comparable capacity are available for considerably less. For instance, TP-link offers a charger with similar capacity that is also lighter at 140 grams (although it lacks Quick Charge 3.0 support) and retails for around 200 SEK. The value proposition of Quick Charge support depends on individual needs and device compatibility; iPhone users may not find it beneficial.
For users with Android devices or a Nintendo Switch who prioritize design and build quality, the Xtorm Power Bank Travel 6700 remains a viable option. However, be prepared to pay a premium and compare prices across retailers, or consider ordering directly from the manufacturer’s website: xtorm.eu.
