Review: The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication

av Henric Brandt

The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication is set within the unsettling environment of Wen Hua University in Taiwan. Players experience the narrative through the perspectives of four distinct characters, each contributing to the investigation of the university’s enigmatic and disturbing past. The game’s premise involves a group of students hosting a horror film festival in the notorious “Da Ren” building, a location rumored to be haunted. As the festival unfolds, the boundaries of reality begin to fracture, blurring the lines between fiction and the tangible world. Players must strive to survive the night and avoid becoming another victim of the curse.

Having missed the initial release of the first Bridge Curse game in 2020, I familiarized myself with it prior to evaluating the sequel. Fans of the original will be pleased to learn that the sequel demonstrates improvement across multiple areas. The game mechanics exhibit enhanced fluidity, the graphical fidelity is noticeably superior, and the sound design and musical score have also been refined. Notably, the English voice acting in the first game presented challenges due to structural differences compared to the original language.

The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication includes an English language option, which I found to be significantly improved compared to its predecessor. While the original language offers a certain gravitas to the experience, the English translation is now a viable alternative.

As previously noted, the graphics are well-executed, contributing to a genuinely unsettling atmosphere in certain segments. The game incorporates both stealth elements and puzzle-solving mechanics to progress. Initially, the puzzles are relatively straightforward, but their complexity increases as the player advances further into the game.

A notable drawback of The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication is the implementation of its stealth mechanics, which lack refinement. The system’s shortcomings can lead to unintentionally humorous situations, such as remaining undetected while moving in plain sight simply by crouching.

In conclusion, The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication delivers an engaging and distinctive gaming experience that grows more compelling as the player progresses. The primary area for improvement lies in the stealth sections. A more polished stealth system would significantly elevate the game’s overall quality and warrant a stronger recommendation.
