Street Fighter 6 features three primary modes. The first is the classic versus mode, pitting players against each other in imaginative arenas with familiar characters from the Street Fighter universe. This mode allows for both local and AI opponents. The second mode offers online play, connecting players globally. Finally, Street Fighter 6 introduces a dedicated story mode where players create custom avatars and embark on a journey to become elite fighters, training and facing challenges throughout the city, learning abilities from various masters.

The original Street Fighter debuted in 1987, spawning numerous sequels and spin-offs. Now, 36 years later, Street Fighter 6 arrives, bringing the fight to an urban setting. In one of the game’s core modes, players create an avatar and explore a sprawling city environment, challenging encountered individuals to duels. This mode includes options to acquire new apparel, customize avatars, and undertake various side quests.
The game boasts sleek and detailed graphics, complemented by high-quality voice acting and a rich sound design.
The sandbox element within Street Fighter 6 proved to be a particularly engaging aspect. However, the ability to challenge any NPC, such as elderly citizens, food vendors, and even law enforcement, to intense battles introduces an element of unintended levity. The core narrative revolves around the pursuit of mastery, requiring players to learn from various mentors to master fighting styles and techniques.
Avatar creation offers extensive customization options, allowing players to fine-tune minute details. An interesting element is that character height influences gameplay, conferring specific advantages and disadvantages during combat.
Beyond the sandbox mode, much of the game retains the series’ familiar feel, showcasing characters spanning Street Fighter’s almost four-decade history. While effective training missions are present, executing certain complex combinations proved challenging, even with diligent practice. This difficulty can, unfortunately, lead to some player frustration.

In conclusion, Street Fighter 6 stands out as a notable entry in the Street Fighter franchise. While not a die-hard fan myself, I particularly appreciated the innovative sandbox mode. Street Fighter 6 earns a recommendation for its advancements and engaging gameplay.
