Shark is rapidly expanding its presence in the Nordic market, consistently introducing innovative beauty products. Notable examples include the popular Shark CryoGlow LED mask and the Shark Glam Multistyler, positioned as a strong competitor to Dyson. In January, we evaluated the Shark SpeedStyle Pro 5-in-1, which impresses with a high airflow capable of reaching 0–160 km/h in under a second. This powerful hairdryer system features five distinct accessories, enabling users to achieve salon-quality hairstyles from the convenience of their homes. Upon unboxing, the device immediately conveys a sense of robust construction. The hairdryer itself feels substantial and durable, suggesting a design engineered for longevity.
Convenient Storage Solution Included
Attaching and detaching the various styling tools is straightforward, and the single-handed operation for styling proves remarkably convenient. A significant advantage is the hairdryer’s extended power cord, offering the flexibility to dry hair outside the bathroom, useful when the space is occupied or for convenience after showering. However, a minor drawback is the cord’s substantial power brick, which is centrally located and creates a somewhat cumbersome profile, reminiscent of a laptop charger. To facilitate organization and storage of all components, a compact black storage bag, made from a neoprene-like material, is included. Given that bathroom space is often at a premium, this is a well-received solution, as it occupies less space than the bulkier storage case accompanying the Shark FlexStyle 5-in-1. While a fabric storage solution might feel less premium, the bag effectively serves its purpose of keeping all accessories together.
Enhanced Shine and Reduced Frizz
A key differentiator for the Shark SpeedStyle Pro, compared to conventional hairdryers, is its specialized scalp protection system designed to prevent heat damage and safeguard new hair growth. While this feature presents an innovative concept, its practical efficacy remains to be definitively assessed. The Shark SpeedStyle Pro is engineered to measure and regulate temperature 1,000 times per second, ensuring it never exceeds 110 °C. Despite this, we occasionally experienced a sensation of significant heat on the scalp when the dryer was held in close proximity. This, however, appeared to be a matter of user adaptation, as by the third use, we had adjusted our technique to maintain an optimal distance. The device also promises reduced frizz through its integrated ionization technology, a claim which we can confirm to be entirely accurate. Our testing demonstrated that hair achieved a smooth, shiny finish, comparable to a professional salon blow-dry, even without the application of hair oil or serum.
In conclusion, the Shark SpeedStyle Pro represents a commendable investment at a competitive price point, particularly when evaluated against its competitor Dyson, whose equivalent hairdryer system is significantly more expensive.
