Razer Kraken V4 Pro – A Headset That Elevates the Gaming Experience

We’re evaluating another premium product from Razer, a brand well-established in the gaming peripheral market. This time, we’re examining the Kraken V4 Pro, a gaming headset engineered for both high performance and versatile functionality. While suitable for gaming, movies, and music, this review will primarily focus on its capabilities within the gaming sphere.

Design and Initial Assessment

The Kraken V4 Pro features a contemporary and robust design, enhanced by RGB lighting that provides the classic “gamer” aesthetic. However, the design incorporates more than just surface-level aesthetics, a nuance that Razer clearly understands.

The headset is constructed with a flexible aluminum frame and rotating earcups designed to optimize fit. The synthetic leather ear cushions conform to the head, providing both comfort and passive noise isolation. The sport mesh-covered headband evenly distributes weight, a feature noticeable during extended gaming sessions where pressure against the head is minimized.

Platform Compatibility – Broad Support

A key feature of the Kraken V4 Pro is its extensive platform compatibility, including PC, Mac, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and smartphones. This allows the headset to potentially serve as a unified audio solution across multiple devices.

Unfortunately, Xbox compatibility is not currently supported.

Simplified Setup

This wireless headset supports connectivity via both Bluetooth and Razer’s proprietary 2.4 GHz wireless dongle. The OLED Control Hub includes two USB-C ports – one for PC and another for devices such as consoles – facilitating seamless switching between different devices without requiring extensive cable management or reconfiguration.

Sustained Comfort During Extended Use

Extended gaming sessions confirmed the Kraken V4 Pro’s suitability for prolonged wear. Whether engaged in fast-paced matches in Counter-Strike or lengthy raids in World of Warcraft, the headset remained stable and comfortable. Its adjustability and ability to conform to various head shapes are significant advantages during intense gameplay.

Immersive Haptic Feedback

A standout feature of the V4 Pro is Sensa-haptics, a technology that translates low-frequency audio signals into tactile feedback. This delivers a physical sensation correlated to in-game events, such as explosions. This immersive experience can enhance gameplay for some users. However, others may find it distracting, particularly within subtle soundscapes. The intensity of this feature is adjustable via a button on the right earcup, offering options for Haptic Off, Low, Medium, and High. A personal preference was the medium setting, as the high setting proved somewhat excessive. Optimal settings are subjective and user-dependent.

The intrinsic sound quality is rich and detailed, especially when leveraging the EQ customization options within the Razer Synapse software. The headset provides precise positional audio, a critical attribute in games where auditory cues can determine success or failure.

Microphone and Battery Performance

The microphone represents an area where the Kraken V4 Pro exhibits limitations. While functional, its audio quality lacks the clarity expected at this price point, especially for streaming applications. However, it remains adequate for in-game communication.

Battery life varies based on feature utilization. With all features enabled – RGB, haptics, and full sound profile – expect approximately 13 hours of operation. Disabling features such as RGB and Sensa-haptics extends battery life to a commendable 50 hours, a significant duration for a headset with this level of functionality.

In conclusion, the Razer Kraken V4 Pro is a feature-rich headset that largely delivers on its promises. Its key attributes include broad compatibility, robust sound reproduction, and a unique haptic system that enhances immersion in specific game genres. The design balances aesthetics with comfort, and the setup process is streamlined for user accessibility.

However, some drawbacks exist. The microphone quality is unremarkable, and the premium price necessitates careful consideration of whether the full suite of features aligns with individual needs. This headset is not intended for users seeking a basic audio solution, but rather for those who desire enhanced functionality and are prepared to invest accordingly.
