We’ve all likely faced the situation where our smartphone battery depletes just when we need it most, whether it’s for sending an important email or enjoying the latest episode of a favorite series. Consequently, carrying one or more portable batteries – power banks – has become a common practice.
I recently evaluated the Primo Wireless Charging Powerbank from Trust. In testing, it consistently charged an iPhone 7 from empty to full at least three times on a single charge. Furthermore, its wired charging performance is notably efficient, achieving approximately 35 seconds per percentage point of battery, significantly outperforming the typical one minute per percentage point.
However, the wireless charging functionality proved less impressive. While this isn’t solely attributable to the Primo Wireless Charging Powerbank, its wireless charging rate is considerably slower. Despite its fast wired charging, wireless charging required a substantial five minutes per percentage point on an iPhone X, resulting in roughly four hours (or half a working day) to reach 50% charge. Wireless charging, in general, tends to be a slower method, potentially explaining the delays in Apple’s own AirPower project. Moreover, the practical advantage of placing a phone on a pad versus using a cable remains debatable.
Overall, I am satisfied with the Powerbank’s performance, particularly given its price point. The primary drawback is its physical size. Despite a slim profile of 15mm, the Primo Wireless Charging Powerbank remains relatively bulky for pocket carry. It’s larger and heavier than many smartphones, with a weight comparable to older portable hard drives. However, its high capacity mitigates this somewhat, reducing the need to carry multiple power banks.
The Primo Wireless Charging Powerbank features dual USB outputs, enabling simultaneous charging of two phones or tablets (though charging speeds will be reduced due to power sharing). A notable feature is the integrated flashlight.
In conclusion, the Primo Wireless Charging Powerbank represents a worthwhile purchase, delivering on its promise of substantial power and rapid wired charging. I recommend it based on its overall performance and value.
