The trend of celebrity-endorsed wines continues to gain traction, and today we review Pazzione Riesling by Pernilla Wahlgren, a dry white wine from Germany. Developed in collaboration with The Wine Team, this Riesling features a low sugar content of 0.6g/100ml. The producer describes the wine as “fresh and dry with hints of green apples, peach, and pineapple,” reflecting the moderate sweetness characteristic of Riesling grapes cultivated in the Rhine Valley for over a century. Our tasting panel has evaluated the wine and presents its assessment.
An important note: this wine benefits significantly from being served well-chilled. In our initial tasting, a slightly elevated temperature in the bag-in-box resulted in a somewhat muddled flavor profile. The wine presented as thin and lacking character, attributable in part to its modest 11.5% alcohol content.
Chilling the wine more thoroughly revealed its intended character. The panel found it to be generally fresh and approachable, with a slightly higher preference among the female tasters. The wine exhibits both fruitiness and acidity, though the expected natural sweetness, often associated with fruits and exotic flavors like pineapple, is somewhat subdued. It pairs well with dishes such as Toast Skagen, where its refreshing qualities complement rich fats and flavors such as mayonnaise. However, it may compete with the profile of a delicate fish served with butter sauce. It also harmonizes with spicy cuisine, such as certain hot Asian dishes.
Pazzione Riesling by Pernilla Wahlgren may not be the most complex wine, but, similar to its namesake, it offers an enjoyable experience on a warm summer evening.
