Review: Panasonic ER-SB60 (trimmer)

av senses.se

Beards continue to be a prominent style, particularly in areas known for their fashion-conscious residents. Maintaining a well-groomed beard requires precision trimming to ensure uniform growth. Having previously evaluated the Panasonic ER-SB40, we decided to examine the newly released Panasonic ER-SB60, Panasonic’s current top-of-the-line beard trimmer.

At first glance, the two trimmers share visual similarities: the SB40 features a black finish, while the SB60 is silver. Both offer adjustable trimming lengths from 0.5-10 mm. However, the SB60 includes two distinct comb attachments, providing enhanced control and styling options. Key specifications such as battery life (60 minutes) and water resistance remain consistent between the models. The SB60 distinguishes itself with improved precision, offering 38 adjustable length settings, doubling the 19 settings of the SB40. This expanded range caters to diverse beard styles, from longer, fuller beards to meticulously maintained stubble. Panasonic provides helpful tutorials on their Youtube channel.

The Panasonic ER-SB60 offers excellent ease of use. Regular lubrication with Panasonic’s recommended blade oil, both before and after each use, ensures optimal sharpness and smooth operation. Routine rinsing under running water maintains hygiene. While the unit is fully waterproof for convenient use in the shower, we recommend trimming on a dry beard for greater control. During a recent production, the ER-SB60 quickly became a favorite among the makeup department, who are frequent users of Panasonic products. Its powerful motor delivers consistent performance. Without any attachments, it trims closely (0.5 mm), while the included comb attachments facilitate precise length adjustments up to 1 cm and enable clean lines.

The linear motor maintains consistent power output throughout the battery’s discharge cycle, preventing performance degradation and hair pulling as the battery depletes. Recharging is straightforward, offering two options: direct connection to a wall outlet via the included cable (which, notably, is not USB), or placement on the provided charging stand, which can remain plugged into the wall for convenient charging between uses.

One minor drawback is the relatively small size of the included blade oil bottle, which necessitates a future purchase. Consumable replenishment is common for frequently used appliances. While any high-quality clipper oil may suffice, those seeking guaranteed compatibility may opt for Panasonic’s specifically formulated oil. Competitive pricing is often available through online retailers. For existing SB40 owners, the upgrade to the SB60 may not warrant an immediate replacement. However, for individuals seeking a new beard trimmer, the SB60’s enhanced features and precision justify the incremental cost. As is typical of Panasonic, this is an excellent product.
