The senses snus test panel recently convened to evaluate the new LD snus offerings: Original White Strong and Original Portion Strong.
The review and test protocols are presented below, including the total scores, reinterpreted from a hundred-point scale to a ten-point scale. Time to sample!

The can designs are modern and clean. Color-wise, I prefer the white strong can, as it projects a slightly “fresher” image compared to the black portion strong can. The design is appealing, with its subtly angular roundness. The cans feel substantial and well-made, fitting comfortably in the hand. They are also easy to locate within a bag. 😉
Regarding the scent, the white strong variety has a faint “perfume-like” aroma, though significantly milder than Göteborgs Rapé, which has a more assertive scent. The portion strong, conversely, presents a more neutral, yet pleasant, snus scent.
The portions are neatly separated within the cans, preventing clumping, which is a positive attribute. I found the white strong portions to be somewhat dry. Upon removal from the can, the portion exhibits a slightly “fluffy dry” texture. The portion strong, while a brown portion, is also relatively dry, which I consider beneficial as it eliminates the need to blot excess moisture, a common issue with other manufacturers’ brown portions.
Both varieties exhibit a relatively mild flavor profile that dissipates rather quickly.
Given that these are designated as strong varieties, I anticipated a more pronounced “kick.” The nicotine delivery is rapid and immediate, but the effect is also short-lived. The portion strong maintains the nicotine sensation for a slightly longer duration.
The portion pouch size is ideal for both varieties, and they feel comfortable under the lip. They do not produce excessive drip, which is a desirable characteristic.
The price point is reasonable; however, considering my preference for a stronger snus, the nicotine content may not fully satisfy my requirements. Consequently, the overall cost could become prohibitive in the long run, as I would likely consume the entire can relatively quickly 😉

Both cans adhere to established industry standards. The can’s appearance is generally consistent with other snus brands, with no significant differentiators. However, I would like to commend the “top lid” design, which is easy to open and provides ample space for discarding used portions. *thumbs up*.
In my opinion, both varieties exhibit a distinct, somewhat pungent, tobacco scent. The aromas are largely similar between the two.
The moisture level of both varieties feels appropriate to the touch, neither excessively dry nor overly wet. They feel comfortable.
The flavors of both varieties align well with their corresponding scents. Initially, the flavors are subtle, but they intensify over time.
I did not experience a significant “kick” from either variety, as I typically consume a considerably stronger snus. The strength is consistently even and balanced in both varieties.
The portions of both varieties sit comfortably in the mouth, but tend to drip. The size is adequate. The white portion exhibits a greater tendency to drip compared to the portion strong, which was somewhat unexpected. This may be due to the white portion causing greater irritation to the mucous membrane.
These varieties are relatively affordable, with an estimated cost of 8 öre per milligram of nicotine.
