TL;DR
NACON's Revolution 5 Pro is a premium, customizable controller that offers a sleek, Xbox-like design with four programmable paddles and adjustable weights. It boasts a comfortable grip and a modular build, but lacks crucial PS5 features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. While it offers solid performance and a premium feel, the audio quality via wired headphones and the included mic is just okay. Does this French contender challenge the big players in the premium controller market? Dive into our full review to find out!
The French accessory giant NACON has developed a new premium controller, the Revolution 5 Pro. We put it to the test. The key question is: does it pose a significant challenge to established third-party manufacturers like Scuf Gaming and AimControllers, or does it fall short of expectations?

Design & Performance
After approximately 20 hours of use, the Revolution 5 Pro demonstrates that Nacon has delivered a compelling product. The design exhibits both aesthetic appeal and robustness. Its shape is, unsurprisingly, reminiscent of the Xbox controller, including the asymmetrical joystick placement. Integrating subtle design cues suggestive of Sony’s aesthetic, this controller is visually pleasing. The back features four programmable paddles, ideal for users who prefer to maintain joystick control while executing commands. Above the top paddles is the setting for the trigger-stop function, enabling faster actuation of the L2 and R2 triggers compared to their full range of motion. Crucially, it’s modular, shipping with a comprehensive set of accessories: three pairs of joysticks with varying designs, two D-pads, six pairs of weights (10, 14, and 16 grams for those who prefer a heavier feel), and two pairs of joystick rings that reduce joystick travel. An external microphone is also included. Additionally, the package contains a protective case and a three-meter USB-C cable for charging during gameplay. A full charge provides approximately 10 hours of playtime, which is considered adequate.

Comfort and Gaming Experience
In terms of comfort, the Revolution 5 Pro fits well in the hand. The rubberized grip offers a secure and premium feel, a welcome departure from the plasticky and sometimes slippery texture of many standard controllers. While the asymmetrical layout may appeal more to Xbox enthusiasts, it remains comfortable even after extended gaming sessions. The RGB ring surrounding the right joystick adds a touch of luxury for some; however, it can be distracting, particularly in dark environments. The placement of the bottom paddles also requires consideration. Unlike the discrete lever design of paddles found on controllers like the Scuf Impact, these are integrated along the handles, potentially leading to accidental presses. This may be a matter of acclimation, but initially, it can be frustrating. This reviewer encountered instances in Warzone where unintentional reloads, instead of knife throws, resulted in lost 1v1 engagements. Overall, the controller is comfortable, well-designed, and presents a robust and refined experience.

Drawbacks
A notable omission, particularly when playing campaign modes in games like Call of Duty, is the lack of haptic feedback (the controller does not vibrate at all) and adaptive triggers. These features are absent from the controller, likely due to Sony’s restrictions on third-party manufacturers. While this is a significant drawback, Nacon is not entirely to blame. Future iterations may hopefully incorporate these functionalities.

The audio quality via wired headphones also warrants attention. At its price point, the expectation is for high-fidelity sound. While not catastrophic, the audio presentation tends towards a tinny and metallic character. Similar observations were noted by other users when testing the included external microphone; the audio, while acceptable, exhibited a persistent tinny echo.
Summary
The Nacon Revolution 5 Pro is a compelling controller, albeit with caveats. Its design is elegant, the ergonomics are sound, and the modularity is highly beneficial for users who enjoy customization. The controller feels well-engineered and offers a generally premium experience. However, the absence of key features such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers is noticeable. The audio quality via wired headphones, while acceptable, does not meet the expectations set by its price point. In conclusion, the Revolution 5 Pro is a good controller that may appeal to specific users seeking an alternative in the premium controller market, even if it doesn’t quite reach the very top tier.
