Review: Motorola Edge 60

av senses.se

Senses.se recently attended Motorola’s event showcasing their upcoming 2025 product line, and the company has several noteworthy developments in store. Motorola is expanding its portfolio with the introduction of products such as the Moto Watch Fit, Moto Buds Loop (designed in the style of Shokz Open Dots One), and updated iterations of existing models. The new lineup features a range of stylish colors selected in collaboration with Pantone. Beyond aesthetics, Motorola is also exploring diverse material options for these upcoming devices. The flagship Razr 60 Ultra, for instance, may be available with a wooden back or in Alcantara.

Motorola appears to be focusing on innovation and design this year. An example of this is the option for Moto Buds Loop adorned with Swarovski crystals. At Senses.se, we anticipate reviewing many of Motorola’s upcoming products, starting with the Motorola Edge 60 in the striking Pantone Shamrock green color. Let’s dive in.

First Impression – Motorola Edge 60

Motorola has consistently aimed to deliver mobile phones with a balanced feature set at an accessible price point. We recently reviewed the Motorola Edge 50 Neo and found it largely satisfactory. With a price just under SEK 7,000, we were interested to see what the Edge 60, priced SEK 1,500 lower, offers. Upon unboxing, the initial impression (aside from Motorola’s characteristic scent we’ve noted in recent models) was that the Edge 60, positioned as an intermediate model in this year’s Edge series, felt elegant, slim, and comfortable to hold. However, after powering it on, updating the software, and beginning daily use, the device felt somewhat sluggish. We will elaborate on this further below.

A Technical Overview

The device weighs 179 grams, making it lightweight, similar to the even lighter Edge 50 Neo. Motorola includes a case from agood company and a charging cable. Notably, a pre-installed screen protector is absent. For SEK 5,500, the Edge 60 features a 6.67-inch Quad-Curve display with rounded corners, a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor (identical to the Edge 50 Neo), a 5,200 mAh battery, IP69/IP68 water resistance, MIL-STD 810H durability certification, three 50MP cameras, and 512 GB of internal storage with 12 GB of RAM. The device also incorporates various sensors and Motorola’s suite of gesture-based features, including Moto Unplugged, Smart Connect, and Moto Secure. These features enhance the user experience and offer unique functionalities, such as the ability to activate the flashlight with a chopping motion or launch the camera with a wrist rotation.

The Camera – Motorola Edge 60

Motorola collaborated with Pantone not only on color choices but also on camera color validation, including skin tone accuracy. Similar to the Edge 50 Neo, the Edge 60 can produce compelling images if used deliberately. Images are crisp and clear with good dynamic range and color reproduction, provided the subject remains relatively still. In less-than-ideal lighting conditions, the camera’s performance diminishes, resulting in blurry images. When attempting to capture a series of photos by holding the shutter button, the camera may struggle to keep pace.

The following photo samples demonstrate the camera’s zoom capabilities.

The Experience – Motorola Edge 60

Our overall impression of the Motorola Edge 60 is positive. However, in comparison to the Motorola Edge 50 Neo, the Edge 60 feels less refined. While the Edge 60 is priced SEK 1,500 lower, certain omissions, such as wireless charging, are difficult to overlook. The battery life of the Edge 60 is adequate, but charging is slow even with a 90-watt charger (the device’s maximum capacity is 68 watts). Given the slim and elegant design, the inclusion of a 5,200 mAh battery is noteworthy. A full charge will last a day with moderate usage. Motorola’s claim of achieving sufficient power in 8 minutes of charging was not our experience.

The camera’s launch is somewhat slow, and the device exhibits a slight delay when turning off the screen. The curved display, including the rounded corners, remains a matter of preference. While visually appealing, accurately tapping elements near the edges can be challenging, and the response can be inconsistent.

2025 Brings a Major Focus on AI

Motorola is prioritizing AI integration across its 2025 phone lineup. Gemini is incorporated, alongside Motorola’s proprietary AI capabilities. A key feature is a diary-like function called Kom ihåg det här (Remember this), designed to collect various objects. Screenshots, notes, and photos are aggregated and made searchable, streamlining content retrieval. The Motorola AI package is still under development, but most functions operate effectively, although language support is ongoing.

The Bottom Line – Motorola Edge 60

We were not as impressed with the Motorola Edge 60 as we have been with previous Motorola phones. The device has an elegant design that belies its price point. However, the user experience reveals some shortcomings. The performance is somewhat perplexing, especially considering that the Motorola Edge 50 Neo shares many of the same components but outperforms the Edge 60 in several areas. Nonetheless, at a price point just above SEK 5,000, the Motorola Edge 60 represents an affordable option.

We anticipate an exciting year ahead for Motorola. We hope the company continues to innovate, and based on what we’ve seen thus far, there appears to be no risk of stagnation.
