MIG, or Mobile Intelligence Game, celebrates 25 years. For a quarter of a century, the Swedish company PlayMIG has enriched countless car journeys and rainy cabin evenings with its compact quiz games. We recently reviewed their new family-friendly release, MIG 0-10, but now we turn our attention to the anniversary edition, namely MIG Silver.
The concept behind Silver aims to evolve the classic formula by integrating modern elements that reflect contemporary social interaction. Is it merely a cosmetic upgrade, or has PlayMIG genuinely innovated? We aim to uncover the answer.
Design and Content

The silver packaging immediately conveys a more premium and sophisticated aesthetic compared to previous colorful editions. The contents include two decks of cards, offering a total of 780 questions, two dice (one color-coded and one classic MIG die), scorepads, pens, and a small silver cardboard card pocket.
Its compact and portable design aligns with the MIG tradition. The packaging efficiently utilizes space, avoiding unnecessary bulk and making it ideal for travel or storage.
Game Rules and New Features
The core gameplay remains familiar: players roll a die, select a question corresponding to the indicated color, and provide an answer. However, MIG Silver introduces compelling new game modes.
Acknowledging the pervasive role of mobile phones in contemporary life, PlayMIG has boldly integrated them into the game’s mechanics, introducing a “Lifeline” concept. Each player has access to three lifelines per game round:
- Call a Friend (30 seconds allowed).
- Answer Twice.
- Search the Internet (20 seconds allowed).
The “Search the Internet” lifeline is particularly noteworthy. With a strict 20-second timer commencing upon search initiation, this feature fundamentally alters the game’s dynamic. Success shifts from pure knowledge recall to the efficiency of formulating search queries. This introduces a unique element of pressure and tension, distinct from traditional quiz games. The 20-second window is surprisingly brief, intensifying the challenge. While experienced mobile users may find an advantage, less familiar users will find themselves pressed for time to even access the browser.
The second significant innovation is the “Pub Quiz” mode. This mode utilizes the small silver card pocket; players insert a question card to conceal the answers, and then all questions on the card are read aloud. Participants simultaneously record their answers.
This mode effectively addresses a common challenge in traditional quiz games: player downtime. By enabling simultaneous participation, it eliminates periods of waiting, keeping all players actively engaged. Consequently, this mode is exceptionally well-suited for larger groups or social gatherings where teams can compete.
The Questions

Having played through a substantial portion of the 780 questions, we found the balance to be highly commendable. As a Swedish-developed game, it naturally circumvents the often obscure or culturally specific questions found in direct translations. Instead, it provides a well-curated blend of Swedish politics, geography, contemporary pop culture, and international history.
The categories comprise the classic divisions: Now & Then, Entertainment & Culture, Near & Far, Sports & Miscellaneous, and Nature & Technology. The content is notably current and fresh, a critical attribute for a knowledge-based game launched in 2025.
Conclusion
MIG Silver transcends the typical anniversary edition. Through the introduction of lifelines and the integration of internet search capabilities, PlayMIG has intelligently modernized the quiz genre. This innovative approach effectively levels the playing field, balancing the advantage between seasoned trivia enthusiasts and agile mobile users.
However, the “Pub Quiz” mode stands out as the most significant enhancement. By eliminating waiting periods and enabling simultaneous competition, it substantially elevates the game’s pace and engagement.
Priced at approximately 329 SEK, it appears somewhat premium. While 780 questions offer substantial content, they may be exhausted more quickly than in larger trivia games like Trivial Pursuit. Nevertheless, its convenient format and versatile gameplay largely offset this consideration. For those seeking a highly adaptable quiz game suitable for diverse settings, from car journeys to social gatherings, MIG Silver represents an excellent recommendation.
