With the premiere of Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame approaching, the LEGO Marvel Collection offers an appealing and cost-effective compilation of LEGO Marvel games. I previously reviewed LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, scoring it an eight out of ten.

Beyond LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, the LEGO Marvel Collection also features LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and LEGO Marvel Avengers, complemented by a selection of downloadable content including additional levels and characters.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, the earliest title in the collection, debuted in 2013. However, its core gameplay mechanics, voice acting, and mission design remain engaging. Several puzzles require genuine thought to solve, offering a surprising level of challenge in certain segments.

LEGO Marvel Avengers closely adapts the narrative of Avengers: Age of Ultron, incorporating LEGO-inspired alterations. Games based on film licenses can sometimes suffer from rushed development cycles, impacting overall quality, as seen in The LEGO Movie Videogame, which is based on LEGO filmen 2. However, LEGO Marvel Avengers proved to be a pleasant surprise. It exhibits a polished feel, with well-crafted levels and a faithful yet natural connection to its source material. The game also features a more restrained and appealing color palette.

In conclusion, this collection is highly entertaining, and arguably surpasses the LEGO Harry Potter Collection. While the latter is only three years older than the original LEGO Marvel Collection title, significant advancements occurred within that timeframe. These include the addition of voice acting for LEGO characters and noticeable improvements in graphics, particularly in lighting and shadows. Furthermore, the bonus levels and characters (including Captain Marvel) included in the LEGO Marvel Collection make it a compelling purchase for enthusiasts of both LEGO and Marvel properties.
