We previously reviewed Jungle Cruise upon its theatrical release; this review will focus specifically on the Blu-ray edition.
Jungle Cruise proved to be a surprisingly enjoyable film. Lacking any prior investment or significant pre-release anticipation, my initial viewing was somewhat spontaneous. With the arrival of the Blu-ray edition, a revisit was in order, and Jungle Cruise proved to be even more rewarding upon a second viewing.
This second viewing allowed for a deeper appreciation of the subtle and ingenious details incorporated by the filmmakers. A significant plot twist occurs towards the end (which will remain undisclosed), but prior knowledge of this twist enhances the understanding of certain lines and reactions that might have previously gone unnoticed. Johnson and Blunt present an unconventional pairing, yet their combined charm and charisma effectively sell their initially tentative relationship.

The Blu-ray edition delivers excellent color reproduction and deep blacks, maximizing the capabilities of the format. A comparison between the Full HD Blu-ray and the 4K stream on Disney+ reveals that the Blu-ray offers a more stable image with fewer compression artifacts. While the streaming version boasts a higher resolution, its lower bitrate results in a more fluctuating picture quality. Jungle Cruise became available on Disney+ from November 12th for all subscribers without the need for Premier Access, which was required during its theatrical run. The DTS HD 7.1 audio track is well-executed, featuring numerous surround effects and impactful bass, particularly during key sequences. However, the overall mix is relatively quiet, requiring a significant increase in amplifier volume to achieve a comparable sound level to other similar soundtracks.
The included extras are substantial, and while the documentaries are concise, they offer informative and entertaining content. A blooper reel is also included, suggesting an enjoyable filming experience for Jungle Cruise!
In conclusion, the quality of this Blu-ray edition elevates the final assessment of Jungle Cruise, confirming its rewatchability. Take this opportunity to experience Jungle Cruise again, or for the first time, and consider entering the competition to win your own copy on Senses!
