Failure is integral to the gameplay; mastering the precise timing of your parkour maneuvers is crucial for success. While you may face numerous deaths, this challenge contributes to the overall experience. As Ghostrunner, the protagonist of this first-person perspective game, you must ascend Darma Tower to overthrow the Keymaster. The narrative begins with your character plummeting from the tower’s apex, awakening with amnesia. Fortunately, an Artificial Intelligence known as The Architect offers guidance, assisting you throughout your ascent. The story unfolds through animated sequences and dialogues between Ghostrunner and The Architect. The combination of engaging narrative and the immersive cyberpunk-apocalyptic environment results in a well-balanced and compelling gaming experience.

The game features a compelling backstory and a visually stunning world, enhanced by its excellent balance. However, players should expect a significant challenge. Death is a recurring element, often requiring players to dedicate substantial time to mastering specific sequences. The core mechanic of this game is precise TIMING, with approximately 90% of the gameplay revolving around parkour and free-running. The game can be described as a fast-paced blend of Mirror’s Edge, Blade Runner, and Max Payne. Players must make instantaneous decisions while simultaneously planning several steps ahead to achieve success.
As previously mentioned, parkour is a primary component of the gameplay: seamlessly transitioning from wall runs to ledge grabs, utilizing a laser-based grappling hook to swing between points, and swiftly eliminating enemies with a katana. While the game’s difficulty is undeniably high, requiring near-perfect execution and timing, Ghostrunner remains an enjoyable experience. It features captivating environments, a high-quality soundtrack, polished game mechanics, and a well-crafted narrative.

In summary, Ghostrunner is a well-produced title. Players who prefer a more deliberate pace may find the game’s demanding reflexes and rapid decision-making challenging. The learning curve is steep, requiring considerable practice to master the controls. However, the sense of accomplishment upon overcoming these challenges is exceptionally rewarding, evoking the feeling of a skilled ninja and motivating continued play.

With Ghostrunner and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red, Poland is making a significant contribution to the cyberpunk genre. Commendations to One More Level for developing an engaging and entertaining game that lives up to the studio’s name.
