Review: Eufy 3-in-1 E20 – A smart budget alternative to the premium segment’s more expensive models.

Introduction

After a month of evaluating the Eufy 3-in-1 E20, I am genuinely impressed. Initially, I questioned the necessity of a robot vacuum, considering my furnished, compact apartment (75 m²). However, the E20’s unique design, to my knowledge the first of its kind, combining a robot vacuum with a convertible stick vacuum, streamlined my daily cleaning routine. Its compact size, appealing aesthetics, and user-friendly operation distinguish it. The Eufy E20 presents a cost-effective alternative to premium models for those seeking automated vacuuming assistance without a significant investment.

Design

Regarding the Eufy E20’s design, it presents a stylish and thoughtfully considered aesthetic. The robot features a low-profile, slim design with a matte black finish that integrates seamlessly into its surroundings. Its discreet presence is a significant advantage. The docking station mirrors this design philosophy, exhibiting a compact and well-engineered form factor that minimizes spatial requirements. Eufy’s attention to detail is evident in the elimination of tangled cords and protruding elements, contributing to a clean and uncluttered appearance.

A notable drawback is the absence of a wall mount for the stick vacuum and brush nozzle. This accessory, priced at 380 SEK, must be purchased separately. Its inclusion would provide a more complete and organized storage solution, eliminating the need for manual stowing of components.

The design feels particularly well-suited for residential environments. Its maneuverability, ease of use, and appealing appearance are commendable. Despite its competitive price point (approximately 7000 SEK) relative to premium robot vacuums like the Roborock Saros 10 (approximately 17,000 SEK, also reviewed by Senses), the Eufy E20 maintains a quality aesthetic.

Function

My primary objective was to minimize the need for manual vacuuming, particularly to address common household messes. The robot performs admirably on hard floors, effectively removing surface debris. The inclusion of the stick vacuum and associated nozzles enhances its versatility, allowing for targeted cleaning in areas such as hallways, kitchens, and upholstery. This combination is, in my opinion, integral to its functionality.

However, its performance on carpets is less impressive, revealing a distinction in cleaning power. While the robot navigates carpets and removes surface dust, it struggles to extract embedded dirt. The robot’s suction power is rated at 8000 Pa, which is lower than that of premium models such as the Roborock Saros 10 (up to 22,000 Pa). For deeper carpet cleaning, utilizing the stick vacuum, which provides up to 30,000 Pa of suction, is recommended.

It’s important to note that, unlike the Roborock and Xiaomi X20+, this model does not offer a mopping function, limiting its capabilities to vacuuming alone.

Regarding battery performance, the advertised runtime is approximately 90 minutes. This figure varies depending on the complexity of the environment and the number of obstacles encountered. In practice, I observed a runtime of slightly over an hour, sufficient to clean my entire apartment on a single charge. If the battery depletes during operation, the robot autonomously returns to the charging station. A full recharge takes approximately two and a half hours, a faster charging time compared to the Xiaomi X20+ in the same price range, which requires about six hours. Upon completion of charging, the robot resumes cleaning from its last position.

When used solely as a stick vacuum, the battery life is significantly reduced to approximately 15–20 minutes. This is expected due to the increased power consumption in this mode. While understandable, a longer battery life would be preferable.

A notable feature is the integration of LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) navigation technology, similar to that used by Roborock. This technology utilizes laser light to map distances to walls and objects. The robot effectively maps its surroundings, navigating rooms, traversing thresholds up to 20 millimeters, and avoiding obstacles. While it may occasionally miss edges or corners, this limitation is easily addressed with the stick vacuum.

Maintaining the machine is straightforward but requires some attention. The robot automatically empties its contents into a three-liter container located in the charging station, reducing the frequency of emptying. The brushes are also easily removable for cleaning. However, both the robot and the stick vacuum are susceptible to hair entanglement, necessitating regular cleaning of the brushes, particularly in households with pets that shed.

Application

The Eufy Clean app, compatible with both iOS and Android, allows users to initiate, pause, and schedule cleaning sessions. It also provides a real-time map, enables selection of specific cleaning zones, displays battery and filter status, and delivers notifications regarding potential issues. The app integrates with voice assistants such as Google Assistant and Alexa.

Initially, I encountered connectivity issues with the app. However, after repositioning the robot closer to the router, the connection was established. Subsequently, the app performed flawlessly, offering a clear and intuitive interface.

The robot maintained a stable connection throughout the testing period. The app’s user-friendliness makes it accessible even to those with limited technical expertise.

Summary

In summary, after a month of testing the Eufy 3-in-1 E20, I am satisfied with its performance. While initially skeptical, this model has proven to be a valuable addition to my household. The combination of robot and stick vacuum functionality is a notable strength, complemented by a stylish design and effective performance on hard floors. While its carpet cleaning capabilities are limited, the stick vacuum provides a suitable alternative. The app, despite initial setup challenges, now operates reliably, and the overall system is well-designed and user-friendly. Considering its price point, the Eufy E20 represents a compelling alternative to more expensive options.
