Review: EPOS | Sennheiser GSP 600

av Henric Brandt

German manufacturer Sennheiser is undoubtedly a hallmark of quality in audio products. Having utilized their equipment in numerous film productions, my curiosity was piqued when the substantial EPOS | Sennheiser GSP 600 Gaming Series headphones became available.

The GSP 600 Gaming Series exhibits a solid and premium feel upon unboxing. While their size might initially suggest a degree of bulkiness, they are surprisingly lightweight and provide a comfortable fit. As someone with a larger head size for my height of 196 cm, I typically require maximum adjustment on headphones, which was the case here. The robust, non-removable microphone, however, sits slightly too close to the mouth, making contact with the cheek. This proximity creates a somewhat confined sensation.

One notable omission is the absence of a control button for managing phone calls. The ability to answer calls without retrieving the phone would enhance the utility of these headphones for hands-free communication.

The audio fidelity is exceptional, representing some of the finest sound reproduction I’ve experienced in headphones. In our headphone testing methodology at senses, we employ familiar tracks with known sonic characteristics to evaluate performance. The Other Side from The Greatest Showman serves as one such benchmark, due to its intricate soundscape. When played through certain car audio systems, for example, the bass frequencies can become muddled, resulting in a generalized “roar.” This issue is also observed in some other headphones and sound systems. However, the GSP 600 Gaming Series rendered the track with remarkable clarity, ensuring that every note was distinct and enjoyable. The level of audio quality was truly unprecedented.

Subsequent testing with Inside on Switch yielded equally impressive results. The headphones contribute significantly to an immersive gaming experience. Similar results were observed with Spider-man on Playstation 4.

Microphone performance was assessed through online games and phone calls. Feedback indicated exceptional clarity. One contact remarked that the audio quality resembled that of a traditional telephone handset. Despite the microphone’s proximity to the face, plosives and extraneous noises were effectively suppressed.

In conclusion, the GSP 600 Gaming Series delivers outstanding audio performance. However, minor drawbacks, such as the somewhat bulky and closely positioned microphone, and the omission of certain features, prevent it from achieving a perfect score. Despite the premium price point, the overall value proposition remains high, establishing a new reference point in the mid-price range for gaming headsets.
