Review: Deliver us the Moon (Switch)

av Henric Brandt

Deliver Us The Moon is set in a near future where Earth’s resources are critically depleted. Humanity’s survival hinges on a lunar colony that transmits vital energy back to Earth. When the moon goes silent and the energy flow ceases, the planet faces imminent catastrophe. After considerable effort, a team manages to assemble the resources to dispatch a lone astronaut to the lunar colony to investigate the situation. This unfolds into an extraordinary mission with global stakes.

I encountered Deliver Us The Moon on Xbox some time ago, and found it immediately captivating. The game boasts a highly cinematic presentation, and the puzzle elements are both innovative and engaging. The developers have effectively utilized their resources by forgoing detailed facial animations and other computationally expensive features. This prevents technical limitations from detracting from the overall experience. In my interview with director Koen Deetman, he mentioned that voice acting was not initially planned, but its eventual inclusion significantly enhanced the game’s immersive quality.

Deliver Us The Moon is not an inherently demanding title graphically, yet the port to Nintendo Switch introduces some compromises. While performance is generally acceptable in docked mode, certain visual details, such as reflections and other environmental effects, are noticeably absent. Furthermore, the game exhibits graphical glitches, including texture flickering and occasional disappearing textures. In handheld mode, the resolution is further reduced, which can impede visual clarity and make it more difficult to discern interactive elements and navigation paths. The core gameplay remains intact on the Switch, but the graphical fidelity is a drawback.

I highly recommend using headphones when playing in portable mode; despite the graphical limitations, the sound design remains exceptionally well-crafted and immersive. Another recommendation is to pay close attention to the narrative details presented through both text and audio, as the overarching story possesses greater depth than initially apparent.

In conclusion, I recommend Deliver Us The Moon for its compelling narrative, meticulous attention to detail, surprising plot twists, and impressive cinematic presentation. While the game is a must-play on other platforms, the graphical compromises present on the Nintendo Switch version necessitate a slightly lower rating.
