We now have the opportunity to review its successor, the Live! Cam Sync 1080p V2, and we are keen to assess its improvements and whether Creative has addressed the issues present in the previous iteration.
The first notable difference is the significantly reduced size of the Live! Cam Sync 1080p V2 compared to its predecessor, without compromising its robust and well-constructed feel. The camera offers versatile positioning options, allowing for placement on a monitor or tripod mounting for alternative angles during video conferencing. Plug-and-play functionality is a definite advantage, eliminating the need for driver installation upon connection to a computer.
A physical lens cover provides assurance of privacy and protection against dust and debris. In our testing during video calls, the image quality was comparable to the previous model; however, the audio performance demonstrated a marked improvement. The integrated dual microphones exhibit enhanced clarity and noise reduction capabilities. Feedback from call participants indicated a discernible difference in audio quality when switching between the original Live! Cam 1080p and the Live! Cam Sync 1080p V2. The inclusion of noise reduction makes it suitable for use in environments with ambient noise, negating the need for an external microphone for clear communication.
A potential limitation of the Live! Cam Sync 1080p V2, particularly for users with specific video production requirements, is the absence of manual controls for white balance and exposure. While the automatic mode performs adequately, the ability to fine-tune and lock these settings would be beneficial. The companion software available for download from Creative’s website primarily focuses on audio enhancements and is currently only compatible with PC operating systems.
