Review: Anker Laptop Power Bank (165 W)

av Björn Alsborger

Anker is well-regarded for its premium chargers and power banks, consistently maintaining a high standard of quality. We are now evaluating their new power bank boasting a total power output of 165 W. It’s important to note that this product isn’t designed for all users. If your needs are limited to a small, lightweight power bank for your phone, this may not be the ideal solution. However, for users who require simultaneous charging of laptops, headphones, and other devices, this power bank presents a compelling option.

Let’s begin with the specifications. The power bank features two integrated USB-C cables, an additional USB-C port, and a USB-A port. All USB-C ports are capable of delivering up to 100 W, enabling simultaneous charging of up to four devices with a combined maximum output of 165 W. The power bank offers a capacity of 25,000 mAh.

A small color screen provides pertinent information, including the remaining battery percentage, the wattage being delivered to connected devices, the power bank’s internal temperature, and battery health status.

The design of the integrated USB-C cables demonstrates thoughtful engineering. Notably, the carrying strap itself functions as a USB cable.

An extendable USB-C cable is located on the top surface. It extends to 0.7 m, and the USB connector features a magnetic design, allowing it to smoothly and securely lock into the power bank when retracted.

We tested the power bank by charging a variety of devices, including phones, laptops, and headphones, both individually and simultaneously. In all scenarios, the devices charged at their maximum supported speeds. One particularly useful feature is its support for “Pass-Through” charging. When connected to a charger, the power bank can simultaneously charge itself and up to three additional devices (using one of the USB-C ports for input).

The power bank has a substantial heft. Our measurements indicate a weight of approximately 600 grams, roughly equivalent to half a laptop or three mobile phones. This is not a device intended for a jacket pocket; it is more suitable for carrying in a laptop bag for extended travel.

Conclusion

In many respects, this represents the quintessential power bank. It provides a significant capacity of 25,000 mAh (approaching the 27,000 mAh limit imposed by many airlines for carry-on luggage). Its integrated cables and ability to simultaneously charge four devices at high speed further enhance its appeal. Are there any drawbacks?

Not significantly. While it is undeniably large and relatively heavy, and carries a recommended price of SEK 1149, the features and capabilities offered justify the cost. The 165 W total output facilitates the charging of laptops, phones, and a variety of other devices.
