Della Vite prosecco – a new favorite

av senses.se

Skepticism regarding celebrity wines is understandable. While some represent a genuine passion for wine culture and offer surprisingly high quality, others appear to be more of a marketing endeavor, leveraging a celebrity’s name to sell an overpriced product based on reputation alone.

The British sisters, the Delevingnes – Chloe, Poppy, and Cara (actress and model) – fall into the former category. In collaboration with a wine-making family in the Vadobbiadene valley, Italy, they have created Della Vite Superiore Prosecco D.O:C.G (Italy’s strictest designation of origin). Prosecco, like cava, is sometimes perceived as a budget-friendly sparkling wine, while Champagnes from prestigious brands are often considered the superior choice. However, Della Vite distinguishes itself. This is a premium Prosecco, positioned to compete with quality Champagnes in both quality and price, and not an inexpensive alternative.

Crafted exclusively from Glera grapes, Della Vite Prosecco exhibits a distinct aroma of citrus blossoms and olives. During our New Year’s celebration at the editorial office, the test panel unanimously agreed: this is an exceptional Prosecco, potentially a new favorite. Common sentiments included “Extremely good,” “elegant,” “fruity,” “easy to drink,” and “fresh.” The Prosecco performs well both as an aperitif and paired with food.

Fish is a classic and reliable pairing for sparkling wines, and it complements Della Vite well. However, Della Vite truly excels when paired with Southern European charcuterie and cheese; French rosette salami and aged parmesan created an outstanding culinary experience. The creators also suggest that fig, honey, artichoke, and Nocellara olives harmonize effectively with their Prosecco.

Della Vite Superiore Prosecco D.O:C.G (article number 54594) is available through Systembolaget’s (Swedish alcohol retail monopoly) ordering system and is priced at 299 SEK at the time of writing. It features an alcohol content of 11.5% and a sugar content of only 1.4 g/l, despite its remarkably fruity and approachable character, defying its Extra Dry classification. Furthermore, the production process is entirely vegan. The entire test panel praised Della Vite. Releasing a Prosecco at this price point that can compete with champagne is a bold move.

We recommend trying it at your next celebration – it is unlikely to disappoint.
