This summer, we evaluated mophie‘s new snap/snap+ series of chargers and accessories during extensive road testing. The product line includes wireless charging solutions that utilize a combined phone holder for in-car mounting via the ventilation grille (snap+ wireless vent mount). Also included are snap adapters, metal rings designed to attach to your iPhone case, providing magnetic alignment with the charging plate and enabling MagSafe fast charging (15W charging requires iPhone 12 or later).
The kit features a streamlined design and straightforward installation process, aided by a helpful template included in the packaging. The Snap rings are available in a two-pack (169 SEK) and are compatible with most standard phone cases. The Snap+ Vent Mount (549 SEK) supports up to 15W fast charging for iPhone 12 models and 7.5W for other iPhones with wireless charging capabilities (iPhone 8 and later). The charger can be detached from the vent mount and used as a conventional wireless charger on a desk or tabletop, powered via the included USB-C cable, snap adapter, and USB-C car adapter. (For Tesla owners, a direct USB-C connection is available.) While many modern Android phones support 15W wireless charging, achieving this on iPhone 12 requires adherence to Apple’s charging specifications. Apple-certified chargers, designated “Made for MagSafe,” should provide 15W charging. However, this certification incurs costs, and the mophie snap+ was not officially certified at the time of testing. Nonetheless, our tests indicate a significantly faster charging rate compared to traditional Lightning cables connected to USB-A ports or car chargers. In some instances, third-party accessories demonstrate superior performance compared to Apple’s own. For example, mophie’s battery pack delivers a higher charging power than Apple’s, despite lacking “Made for MagSafe” certification (as reported by 9to5Mac). The Snap+ Vent Mount offers good value considering its components. Our primary concern is that the weight of our iPhone 12 and 11 Pro Max units occasionally caused the phone to detach from the mount, particularly during rapid acceleration. This suggests the magnetic connection may be insufficient for larger, heavier phones. However, it should perform optimally with standard-sized iPhones or the iPhone mini.
