Review: Logitech G PRO X Superlight 2 DEX

av senses.se

Initially, the lack of heft might be deceiving. The satisfying sensation of substantial weight, metal construction, and notable resistance – qualities often, albeit mistakenly, associated with overall quality – is absent. This contrasts sharply with the premium feel one might expect, especially when compared to a high-end mouse like the Logitech MX Master 3S. The initial impression leans more towards a budget-friendly peripheral.

However, placing the mouse on a pad quickly reveals its true potential. Finger control becomes intuitive, with minimal wrist movement required. While the promotional materials may have been somewhat hyperbolic, the responsiveness and comfort are immediately apparent. There’s a discernible quality that emerges after even brief use.

These elements converge in the Logitech G PRO X Superlight 2 DEX (hereafter referred to as DEX). This is a dedicated gaming mouse meticulously engineered for comfort, precision, and minimal weight. The resulting performance is impressive, though not without some trade-offs.

DEX – A First Impression

The exceptionally low weight is immediately noticeable. At senses.se, we’ve encountered lightweight gaming mice before, including the Asus ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab Edition, which felt incredibly light and, admittedly, is a mere 6 grams lighter than the DEX. The difference is practically imperceptible; both are exceptionally light. The focus on minimizing weight is undeniable. Interestingly, the design philosophy balances simplicity with advanced features. The mouse offers an asymmetrical shape tailored for right-handed users, featuring standard right/left click buttons, a scroll wheel, and forward/backward side buttons. The package includes additional black grip tape (regardless of the mouse’s color), a charging cable, a USB A to C adapter, a cleaning cloth, and a replacement underside cover with PTFE feet.

Beyond the exterior lies the advanced Hero 2 sensor (888 IPS, 88 G acceleration, and up to 44,000 DPI), a wireless LIGHTSPEED connection supporting up to an 8 kHz polling rate, and an impressive battery life of 95 hours of continuous use before requiring a recharge.

While the internal components are cutting-edge, the external design prioritizes simplicity. It’s understated to the point where it could easily be mistaken for a standard office mouse until used.

The Design

Logitech G collaborated with over 30 e-sports professionals from organizations such as NAVI, G2, TSM, Astralis, and FlyQuest RED during the DEX’s development. Their collective input, gathered over numerous development hours, shaped the final product. At 125.8 mm, it’s a fairly large mouse, yet its low weight facilitates primarily finger-based control. The ergonomic, sloping shape provides a comfortable hand rest. Switching between the DEX and the Logitech MX Master 3S, while both are relatively large mice and excel in ergonomics, highlights their distinct purposes. The DEX lacks programmable macro buttons, multi-device switching, and a dedicated DPI or scroll function button, focusing solely on gaming performance.

Functions

Internally, the mouse allows for saving settings directly onto the device, eliminating reliance on the Logitech G Hub software. Logitech G Hub (which features an intuitive charging sequence) enables users to customize the DEX for various functions. Users can configure DPI settings for specific games and define a default profile for general use. However, customization is somewhat limited by the DEX’s streamlined button configuration.

For users with established preferences from existing gaming mice, the DEX offers Hero sensor calibration to replicate those settings. The Lightforce switch features both an energy-saving hybrid mode and an optical-only mode. However, given the approximately 92 hours of battery life available with an 82 percent charge, power conservation may not be a primary concern.

The DEX also supports Powerplay 2, Logitech’s wireless charging mouse pad. The magnetic underside cover can be easily replaced with the Powerplay 2 wireless charging puck. While the DEX already boasts 95 hours of battery life, sufficient for LAN parties or tournaments, the Powerplay 2 ensures continuous operation.

The Experience – DEX

From a weight and design perspective, the DEX is an exceptional gaming mouse. After extensive playtesting in Battlefield 4, Sea of Thieves, and Supreme Commander, its long-term comfort is undeniable. However, the absence of a dedicated DPI button is noticeable. Quick DPI adjustments, useful for situations like turret rotation in Battlefield 4, are missed. While Logitech G Hub offers some workarounds, they are not comprehensive. The click sound might also be a matter of preference, as it lacks the refined acoustics of the Logitech MX Master 3S. These, however, are minor criticisms. As Logitech emphasizes, the focus remains on the game, with the mouse serving as a seamless extension of the user’s arm – a sentiment that, while perhaps dramatically stated, holds true.

The price point is also a consideration, as the DEX commands a premium of 2,000 kronor. This places it on the higher end of the market. Lighter gaming mice, such as the Asus ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab Edition, are available for approximately half the price (and include LED lighting). The DEX’s primary strength lies in its design, but the cost remains significant.

The Conclusion – Logitech G PRO X Superlight 2 DEX The Logitech G PRO X Superlight 2 DEX is an exceptionally light and comfortable gaming mouse. While its price is relatively high, the value proposition depends on individual priorities. FPS players will likely benefit more from the DEX than those engaged in strategy games like Cities: Skylines, where speed is less critical. Furthermore, users who require extensive macro customization may find the DEX’s button configuration limiting.
