Willys Wonderland – The Game is an adaptation of the 2021 film of the same name, starring Nicolas Cage. The game immediately immerses the player in an abandoned theme restaurant setting, where animatronic creatures function as murderous machines. The narrative centers on a mute, enigmatic caretaker who confronts these dangerous entities.

Prior to playing the game, I familiarized myself with the source material by watching the Willys Wonderland film. The premise shares similarities with Five Nights at Freddy’s, albeit with less compelling animatronic designs and a particularly eccentric performance by Nicolas Cage. Despite its B-movie aesthetic, the film proved to be more engaging than the game itself.

Willys Wonderland – The Game is a side-scrolling beat ’em up in which players face attacks from characters featured in the film. Familiar antagonists such as Tito Turtle, Siren Sara, Arty Alligator, Cammy Chameleon, and Willy Weasel repeatedly reappear, even after being defeated, differing from the film’s depiction. Some of these characters also appear as bosses.
The game features retro-style graphics and adequate sound design. However, the animations and core mechanics are simplistic, leading to rapid repetition and a monotonous gameplay loop. The environments are, to their credit, faithful recreations of the film’s locations.

The game offers single-player and local co-op modes, allowing players to choose between the Janitor and Liv characters. While the co-op mode offers a more engaging experience, the game’s overall appeal is limited.
In conclusion, Willys Wonderland – The Game suffers from repetitive and uninspired gameplay. However, fans of the film may find it more enjoyable than I did.
