We evaluated the JBL Live Flex 3, which features a notable smart charging case. The packaging contains a 20 cm USB-C to USB-A cable in the signature JBL orange, a concise user manual, and the smart charging case housing the earbuds.

The smart charging case warrants specific attention. While its extensive functionality may initially seem complex, the utility of housing these features within the charging case quickly becomes apparent. After several days of use, users will likely identify preferred configurations tailored to various scenarios.

The JBL app, or the case’s integrated touchscreen, allows users to manage adaptive noise cancellation and select from a range of sound profiles, including Studio, Bass, Club, Extreme Bass, Vocal, and Jazz. The Spatial Sound feature provides movie, game, and music modes. Furthermore, users can create custom sound profiles within the app. During testing, we found the app to offer a more responsive control experience compared to the touchscreen, which occasionally exhibited latency.

Within the app, microphone settings can be adjusted. Options include “Natural” for standard sound reproduction, “Powerful” for enhanced vocal depth, and “Bright” for increased clarity. Similarly, incoming call audio can be tailored with “Natural,” “Increased Treble,” or “Increased Bass” settings.

The battery provides up to 50 hours of total playtime. The earbuds themselves hold approximately 10 hours of charge, and the charging case provides an additional four full charges. This extended battery life is a significant advantage, reducing the frequency of required charging.

A single tap on the left earbud toggles noise cancellation. A similar tap on the right earbud pauses audio playback or answers incoming calls. A double-tap on the right earbud advances to the next track.

The sound quality is noteworthy, particularly given the range of customizable settings. Compared to other similarly sized earbuds, the Live Flex 3 delivers impressive bass response, making them well-suited for genres such as EDM. Each earbud weighs 4.5 grams, for a combined weight of 9 grams. They offer a frequency response of 20 Hz-40 kHz and connect via Bluetooth 5.3. The charging case, weighing 63.7 grams, utilizes Bluetooth 5.1. Multi-point connection is supported, enabling seamless switching between devices, such as from a smartphone to a tablet.
In conclusion, the JBL Live Flex 3 distinguishes itself with its versatility and audio fidelity. The smart charging case provides customizable features, and the extended 50-hour battery life minimizes charging requirements. Whether the priority is powerful bass, clear audio, or effective noise cancellation, these earbuds offer a robust and adaptable listening experience.
