We have evaluated numerous speakers over the years. The Xiaomi Sound Pocket presents a unique proposition due to its exceptionally low price point. At the time of this review, it retails for approximately SEK 225 (according to Prisjakt.se).
For SEK 225, the Xiaomi Sound Pocket offers a highly compact design (90.8 mm x 74.4 mm x 42.6 mm) with a weight of 200 grams. The specifications indicate a 10-hour battery life (at 40% volume), Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, USB-C charging (approximately 3 hours for a full charge), and an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

The speaker’s side features buttons for volume control and play/pause, which also function as skip controls with a double tap.

The underside houses the power button and Bluetooth pairing button, while the charging port is located on the opposite long side. Our initial observation concerns the charging port cover, which can be somewhat difficult to fully secure.

As depicted above, the port cover does not achieve a completely flush closure, resulting in a slight protrusion. While minimal, this imperfection is noticeable.
Despite this minor issue, the overall build quality of the speaker is impressive. The construction feels robust and would be acceptable even at a significantly higher price point.
Sound Quality
Regarding audio performance, the Xiaomi Sound Pocket is limited to the SBC codec. While higher-quality codecs are absent, this is generally expected for devices in this size and price category.
The speaker’s maximum volume output is surprisingly high without significant distortion. Above 80% volume, some degradation in audio quality becomes apparent, but the output remains adequate. The speaker provides ample volume for environments such as hotel rooms, balconies, or patios.
Using our standard reference tracks, we observed that Ozzy Osbourne’s vocals in “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” can exhibit some harshness at higher volumes. The bass response in Dr. Dre’s “Xxplosive” is not particularly pronounced. However, the overall sound quality is satisfactory across a range of musical genres.
When operating at higher volumes while standing upright, the speaker exhibits noticeable vibrations and movement, as shown in the video. These vibrations can also induce noise from the surface it rests upon. Therefore, when playing audio above 30-40% volume, it is advisable to lay the speaker on its side. The side opposite the Xiaomi logo incorporates dampening feet to minimize vibrations and prevent movement.

Battery Life
Xiaomi claims a 10-hour battery life at 40% volume, which aligns with our testing. We achieved approximately 8 hours of playback, with the volume often exceeding 40%.
A notable drawback concerning the battery is the charging time. A full charge requires 3 hours, suggesting that support for a fast-charging protocol would be a valuable enhancement.
Conclusion
Despite the minor imperfections noted, we are overall very pleased with the Xiaomi Sound Pocket. Its highly compact form factor makes it an ideal travel companion, easily fitting into a backpack. The IP67 rating provides peace of mind for use in environments such as the beach. At a price point below SEK 300, it represents a compelling purchase.
